Alien Aesthetics
"David Grush Testifies to Congress"
Acrylic and Pastel on Black Canvas
60" x 36"
2023
Artist's Note:
Alien Aesthetics is a body of work featured in my Fall 2023 Senior Graduating Solo Show at the Stan State Art Space. In July, David Grush testified to congress about the UFO/UAP phenomenon, which inspired this body of work. I used unprimed black canvas to imitate the vast darkness we're all in. Paint was applied to illuminate the subjects to the audience through a lense of speculation. Inspired by Jim Shaw's work, I drew conspiratorial connections between NASA's founder Wernher von Braun, Walt Disney, and the biblical implications of a non-human subject. As non-humans become integrated into our social and scientific sectors, I urge the audience to consider multiple perspectives on the UAP/UFO phenomena.

*Artist's Note on "Burn It Down":
By the time I was done with this series, I felt like I could literally burn everything and feel cleansed. The work became burdensome and I didn't like how many things turned out, but this painting that I did to exersize a relief in the stress turned out to be my favorite piece because it felt effortless. I had overcome the challenges of unprimed black canvas and was able to use those techniques to my advantage.
